WHY I DIRECTED CAGED
First and foremost, here's what you need to know about Caged... I never intended to direct it. When actress, writer and producer Brittney Bertier sent me her script, I had just wrapped shooting a different short film. I was exhausted, and frankly spent. So I was intending to pass, but then... I read it. Brittney had the makings of a fun, subversive story that I could vibrantly see in my head. In a matter of five pages, I went from believing there was no way I would direct this to I HAVE TO DIRECT THIS.
It's a decision I'm so happy I made. Caged was made by an incredible team of artists who helped elevate the story, the world and the final film. It takes a premise that we've all seen in films (a kidnapping), and then, completely subverts it. At its core are two dynamic performances, especially by Brittney who brings so much to a role where she's seated for 90% of the film.
Caged is jam packed with laughs, heart and a few surprises that will keep audiences guessing until the end. Plus, this is also an unabashed love letter to America's favorite actor Nicolas Kim Coppola (also known as Nic Cage).
